Be Selfish

If there ever was a time to be selfish, now is the time. We are living in a time where heart disease, stroke, cancer and so many other diseases are claiming us and our love ones at record numbers. We take on too much, give too much, and receive so little. If we’re not putting in work on the job, we’re putting it in on the home front. But there’s a solution. Two words, be selfish

Here’s 5 ways to be selfish without blowing your cover

  1. Delegate. You’re not super human. Accept help by delegating work to others you know and trust will get the job done. Be confident in your judgment by allowing others to help with day-to-day task.
  2. Do nothing day. Pick a day when you do absolutely nothing. No business work or house chores. Lounge around, read, or watch your favorite shows all day. But whatever you do, don’t work.
  3. Take thirty. I use to take thirty minutes each day to wind down after work. It was a big help and gave me the time to transition from work to home. When you get home from work put your things down and go to your room. Let it be understood that you’re winding down and would like to be left alone.
  4. Say no. It’s okay to say no. You don’t have to be everything, for everybody, all the time. Learn to say no. Try it now. Go ahead…I’ll wait. Great! See it’s easy! Of course you want to use tact but do learn to use the word no.
  5. Exercise. I’m preaching to myself now. Exercise helps to minimize so many ailments. High blood pressure. High Cholesterol. Diabetes. Anxiety. When I exercise regularly, I’m more relaxed. I don’t feel wired and my mind is clear. You will be much happier and peace will abide in the your work and personal life.

So there you have five ways to be selfish. I set out to write this post after speaking with a love one about a personal matter. I knew that if this family member is experiencing burnout, surely others are as well. This post was written to help you all but it has helped me in the process. Please add to the list and share with us how you are selfish. Being selfish never felt so great!
