Pastime

The Secret Is Out

I have a secret to share. It’s an unusual pastime of mine that helps me to make decisions and brings about great ideas. It may be odd to you but to me, it’s perfectly normal. My secretly unusual pastime is…I like to people watch. Yes, you heard me correct, I watch people! But not in the way you may be thinking.  No, I don’t go to the mall to look at people, although I’m not opposed to a little relaxation time spent watching others.

Instead, I mentally watch people and take notes. People watching can be both fascinating and life-altering. It doesn’t take a lot of energy on your part and it can be done without anyone knowing.  Like me, I’m sure many of you interact with a myriad of people on a daily basis. At work, church, the doctor’s office, in the grocery line, etc.  The opportunity to people watch is always available.   As a matter of fact, it was people watching that gave me the idea to start Right Order Concepts but I’ll get into that later.

3 Benefits to people watching

People watching can help you differentiate between what to do and what not to do. My advice to you would be to learn from others and their mistakes. Let’s not be so self-absorbed that we’re too busy to “stop, look, and listen.” Isn’t that what were instructed to do in avoiding a train crash? Let’s take those same directions and apply it to people watching. You just might learn something or save yourself from a world of heartaches and crashes.

By people watching you can identify someone to help. I once benefited from someone watching me. It was during a difficult time in my life. My only solace was in my faith so I attended church often. Actually, it was the one place I could find peace. Apparently, by me attending church, someone thought I would make a good candidate for employment and offered me a job. I took the job and have since had three promotions, tuition-free education, and now my own business. The person who offered me the job later told me that she figured since I consistently attended church, I would do the same on the job. So you see, by people watching, you could possibly be in a position to help someone. Furthermore, be mindful of your actions because your next employer may be people watching.

When people watching you could discover your purpose and passion. I discovered my purpose.  My advise to you is to watch how others lead and conduct business to prepare yourself to be a leader and business owner. I was preparing for ROC and the other opportunities that have allowed me to work with so many wonderful people.

Closing

Now that you’re in on my unusual pastime, why don’t you share one? What are some of the things you enjoy that others may find unusual? Sharing is caring! #peoplewatching#promotion#benefits
